Day 22 – Thonsela Cave

40 days – 40 hikes – Walking 4 Education

All the world is a laboratory to the inquiring mind ~ Martin H. Fischer

We departed just before 7am on a very windy morning with just 3 of us and the faithful hound, Moya. We had to move quickly to warm-up but in no time we were above the dams and soon after that on the Lone Rock level. A lone baboon watched us from above and barked as we made our way steadily to the cliff line.

We sheltered from the wind in the little overhang where the Bushman Paintings can be found. We have been so fortunate to see rather a lot of paintings over the last week and they provide us with a glimpse of life in the early days. The paintings at Thonsela, although small, are quite lovely with 2 leopards and a few figures. We then popped into Thonsela cave for a short time. There is still quite a lot of water which is a good sign as we move into the drier months.

We retraced our steps on the way home at rather a quick pace. Our walk was just less than 2 hours and we were home in time for breakfast! What a lovely way to start the day!
