Day 21 – Bishop’s Inkaba

40 days – 40 hikes – Walking 4 Education

All of life is a constant education ~ Eleanor Roosevelt

Our party of five left the front lawn just after 9. We headed through the Fern Forest, along the Echo Cave path, marched up the log steps and arrived quite quickly at Rustler’s Gap. This is definitely an excellent warm-up and work-out.

Just beyond this band of rocks the path splits and we took the contour to the right into the Sungubala Valley. This is lovely walking. Great big strides all the way to our tea-spot, the Bishop’s Inkaba (belly-button!). We rested on the rocks while the water boiled, enjoying the wonderful sunshine.

We decided to continue along the contour, which goes on a higher level than Jackal Hill, to the far side of the Sungubala Farm. The descent, near the fence line, is fairly steep but should be manageable for most.

We then walked on the old jeep track, along Bushbuck Ridge and through the Fern Forest. This is a full morning walk and we arrived home just after 1 for a tasty chicken schnitzel!
