Activities

Our resort offers all sorts of activities. We have two daily guided hikes, fishing and horse trails for the experienced and for the ‘not-so-sure’. If you’re keen on mountain biking, our trails will keep you busy for days. If you prefer taking it easy, our pool is the perfect place to relax with a book, a tray of tea or a cold beer. For those up for a challenge, there’s tennis, lawn bowls and board games, such as scrabble, chess or backgammon.

We welcome children. There are pony rides, canoeing trips on the dam and a safe, exciting playground in a garden setting.

      Hello Eliese
Yes, we actually stocked 3 of our mountain dams with rainbow trout last week.
The other two dams now have tilapia and we are encouraging youngsters to try their hand at fishing at Darter Dam, near the stables and Charleswood, near the tennis courts.
      With warm wishes,
      Megan

    2. Hi Megan
Just want to confirm that your internet is always working as my husband has to have a zoom meeting on 11th October 2023 in the afternoon. Just checking.
      Thanks a million.

        Hello again!
Our internet works 99% of the time so fingers crossed, there won’t be a problem. Very occasionally lightning can affect things or batteries that are uncharged following long outages but thankfully this does not happen often here.
Your husband is welcome to use the Conference Room for his meeting if he needs a quiet, private space. He can just pop into the Reception to make arrangements.
        Warm wishes,
        Megan

      Thanks very much Warwick.
Yes, we do need to update the information.
We hope to find a new supplier and have the mountain dams stocked again with trout in the Autumn.
In the interim we have added Tilapia to the dam near the stables to encourage young enthusiasts to fish there.
      With best wishes,
      Megan

  1. We wish to confirm if we need to buy a permit as we may already have a permit from our current hotel at champaign Castle Hotel?
Can you also confirm the rand rate per kg ?
My son is a eager fisherman and I do need to budget.

      Hi Yusuf
We have a common boundry with the Royal Natal National Park but unfortunately there is a hill between us and the Amphitheatre. We do have rooms with mountain facing views but not of the actual Amphitheatre. This gorgeous mountain is viewed on your drive in to us and again from the top of Surprise Ridge, a lovely morning walk.
      With best wishes

  2. Hi there. Is there a river that one could swim in or dip their feet. I saw pics of a waterfall in your gallery, is there an area there to safely swim?

    1. Megan Carte Bedingham

      Hi Rich
Yes, there are a number of spots for swimming, best in the summer months when the rivers are flowing well.
      Best wishes,
      Megan

  3. Hi, just in terms of fishing, how far away are the dams from the rooms and are there any restrictions on the use of things like float tubes?

    1. Megan Carte Bedingham

      Hi Mark
Apologies for the delay. You are most welcome to use float tubes. In our trout dams, only fly fishing is allowed.
      Best wishes,
      Megan
