Star Gazing

An informative tour of the night sky with Tim Cooper, including seeing planets, double stars, star clusters, galaxies and nebulae through a large telescope.

The weekend activities remain similar with hikes and horse rides each morning but Tim Cooper will be on the front lawn on Friday and Saturday evening after dinner with a large telescope. Be sure to attend the Saturday evening ‘What’s Up’ talk before exploring the night’s sky.

  1. Hi there, can I confirm that this stargazing only happens once a year, in August? If I would like to arrange for a private stargazing session just for the family, would the resort be able to assist with that?

      Hi Charmaine
We do arrange for Tim Cooper to join us with his special large telescope. I am not sure that he is available for private functions but we could make enquiries. We will be in touch on email.
      With best wishes,
      Megan

  2. Hello Cavern team,
I saw some comments about stargazing at Cavern – do you have telescope facilities for stargazing?
    Thanks!

      Dear Arthi
Thank you for being in touch. Unfortunately we don’t have a telescope at the Cavern but we do offer a Star Gazing weekend once a year. Tim Cooper brings along a wonderful large telescope and gives our guests a tour of the night’s sky. This will happen over the weekend, 19-21 August 2022, at R3360 per adult sharing for the 2-night weekend stay. This includes all meals, teas and guided morning walks, plus the star gazing at night.
      With best wishes,
      Megan
